A big evolutionary step
(01)
Over the years, the Anfim brand has built its credibility and reputation around extremely recognizable products. The most traditional products have always been distinguished by technical-functional characteristics that have also influenced their form, which over time has become iconic and representative of the brand’s values: quality, reliability, and solidity.
With Luna, Anfim decided to take a turn by creating a completely new, technologically advanced product with a different style, while still maintaining a link to its most recognizable design elements. A major evolutionary step that takes Anfim into a new phase, corresponding with a renewal of the brand’s communication and image.
Initial challenge
(02)
The project to be developed was therefore highly stimulating and particularly delicate: the goal was to design an innovative product that respected Anfim’s most distinctive design elements and expressed all the brand’s values.
What is Anfim?
(03)
We carefully analyzed the Anfim brand and its most distinctive products to understand which elements made them recognizable: first and foremost, the shape of the product body, an extruded octagon in height, on which all functional elements are arranged.
Atop this octagonal prism is the hopper that contains the coffee beans, also with a characteristic shape: a wide cylinder with a narrowing at its lower part, just before joining the body.
In general, Anfim products are characterized by geometric and rigorous shapes, with technical elements highlighted; these and other aspects are what the company has chosen to communicate through its products, its values: quality, reliability, durability, the result of know-how gained in over 90 years of experience.
The new Luna
(04)
We therefore designed and developed the new Luna coffee grinder taking into account all the elements that emerged in the initial phases of the project: the result is a product that maintains the family feeling with the rest of Anfim’s portfolio, but with a modern and essential style.
The iconic octagonal section has been modified in proportions, and the sides have been slightly curved. On the front, all the elements related to grinding are grouped together, configuring a simple and intuitive user interface.
The grain is adjusted through a user-facing knob, while all other settings are configurable through the 3.5″ display located in the center of the grinder.
The new digital interface
(05)
Display
The screen, besides being a visual centerpiece of the product, is also central in the user experience. In fact, the interface with which it is equipped is extremely comprehensive and branched to ensure that the user has a customization option never before seen on the brand’s products.
User experience
Once chosen among the 6 available languages, the user has access to three customizable doses, can adjust various technical parameters, keep track of product statistics and the status of the grinder, quickly access assistance videos via QR code, and also access diagnostic tools to verify the correct functioning of some internal components.
In order to “protect” these settings from the hands of inexperienced users, a “basic mode” was included, which limits the use of the product to just coffee grinding; in fact, when designing Luna, we never lost sight of its context of use, namely the bar, where profiles with different levels of experience alternate.
User interface
The launch of the Luna coffee grinder coincided with a restyling of the Anfim brand image, which produced a new logo and a new color palette. Based on these elements, we developed a clean and essential user interface, with high contrast to ensure the best possible readability.
Final considerations
(06)
Team working
The success of a delicate project like this largely depends on the synergy among the individuals involved, and in the case of the Luna project, all the professionals involved (internal company departments, hardware and software developers) worked together to achieve the best possible result, under the leadership and supervision of Anfim’s management.
Luna and Alba
The result is an intelligent and reliable product, easy to use and extremely performant thanks to the high-quality components it integrates, with ample customization possibilities and a construction logic optimized for production and maintenance.
From a product design point of view, Luna is a clean and essential product, with a rigorous and geometric language (as per the brand’s tradition) softened by some interventions that make it more modern and less angular, a coffee grinder that marks a step forward in the style of Anfim products, but without forgetting its history.
This formal study also gave rise to the Alba coffee grinder version.
